"From my early teens, I've been an admirer and collector of stones," said the artist. "After an inspiring trip to Ecuador, this passion led me to choose art as my full-time occupation instead of returning to University of Washington."

"I first met Shauna and saw her unique hand fabricated art jewelry shortly after her arrival on Maui in 1992," said Lynn Shue, owner/director of Village Galleries. "Her designs stood out as original art I would be proud to carry in my galleries."

2012 marks the 20th year Village Galleries has represented the artist.

Hand-made jewelry is the theme of another Maui artisan's show each Wednesday this month from 1 to 5 p.m. when Maui Hands Galleries in the Hyatt Regency, Ka'anapali presents the unique, retro and wildly creative art jewelry pieces of Joyce Bezusco.

Bezusco's studio is located on the shores of Maui where her passion is fueled by the ever-changing ocean, calming breezes, majestic mountains and lush greenery. It is there she creates her one-of-a-kind cuff bracelets, pendants, belt buckles and wall pieces.

Edgy, elegant, whimsical and over-the-top are words that describe Bezusco's art form. She enjoys the challenge of creating custom pieces.

With a deep appreciation for retro and a love affair with the "Old Hollywood" romance of vintage jewelry, she is able to craft a unique and captivating blend of modern nostalgia.

Joyce's use of primarily existing materials maintains her respect for lowering her carbon footprint proving beautiful works of art and nature can co-exist.

Joyce says, "Keep your dreams high and your spirit higher."
