A home in the Kapalua Resort is currently being featured on HGTV's "Million Dollar Rooms" show.
The Great Room in the house at 7 Kapalua Place, which also is known as the "Jewel of Maui," is owned by internationally known seascape and marine artist Christian Riese Lassen, who was raised on the Valley Isle.
The episode featuring the customized Great Room segment and hosted by Carter Oosterhouse began airing Oct. 23.
The Maui home episode is scheduled next to air on Nov. 25 on HGTV, Channels 59 and 323, said Susan Bynum, marketing coordinator with Long & Associates Architects and Interiors of Honolulu. She said that the Jewel of Maui's Grand Room program will be repeated afterward as well, which is typical for "Million Dollar Rooms."
The luxurious room features 18-foot doors, customized pieces and represents a blend of Balinese and tropical themes within the beachfront villa. The show features many other elements of the home as well, such as the Jewel's vaulted ceilings, infinity pool and panoramic ocean views.
The home and room already have been featured in magazines as well as on the television show "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," according to a news release.
Images of the entire home, as well as the stone, wood and glass Great Room - filled with art and other details such as a winding staircase and a transformative lighting system - can be seen online, too.
Hawaii architect Jeffrey T. Long and builder John Kaahui created the home and its special room.
"Million Dollar Rooms is a wonderful way to showcase the most innovative and creative designs architects can do for private residences," Long said. He added that he worked closely with the artist owner, Lassen, so "ideas soared," which resulted in a "home with captivating contemporary and tropical imagery."
