Three vehicles were intentionally set on fire in a span of five hours from late Sunday night into Monday morning in the Kihei and Wailea areas, fire officials said.
The estimated damage in one of the incidents was $27,500. No injuries were reported. Police are also investigating the incident.
The first fire was reported at 10 p.m. Sunday at the parking lot of Paradise Gardens at 851 S. Kihei Road. The rear section of a white van burned, but bystanders doused the flames with a water hose before the Kihei fire crew's arrival.
The second fire occurred at 12:50 a.m. Monday at 143 Namauu St. A gold Mercury sedan was fully involved fronting a residence. The Kihei fire crew had the fire under control at 1:05 a.m. and extinguished 17 minutes later.
The third fire was reported at 2:23 a.m. at Hotel Wailea at 555 Kaukahi St. The Wailea fire crew found a Jeep ablaze in the hotel parking lot. The fire burned a Ford sports utility vehicle parked next to the Jeep.
The Wailea fire crew had the fires under control at 2:34 a.m. and extinguished 16 minutes later.
A fire inspector called to the Hotel Wailea fire estimated the damage to the Jeep was $25,000. Damage to the other vehicle, a Ford Edge, was estimated at $2,500.
