1912 - Maui was true to the G.O.P. on Tuesday last, and the results of the election on this island showed that the Republican Spirit is just as strong today on the Valley Island as at any time in the past.

1937 - Elaborate plans for celebration of Philippines Commonwealth Day have been made by the Paia Filipino Laborers' club, which is observing the event with three days of sports, literary and patriotic ceremonies.

50 Years Ago

1962 - The Board of Supervisors of the County of Maui will have three Republicans for the first time since January, 1947: Marco Meyer, Wendell F. Crockett, and Joe Bulgo. The fifth and sixth seats went to Democrats Lanny Morisaki and Tom Tagawa.

25 Years Ago

1987 - Hawaii Public Radio is coming to Maui. After years of problems with frequency overlaps and lease clearances, the Maui transmitter station for KHPR is just one final step away from construction. Once constructed, the station should be on the air in three months.

2002 - To the nation she was a trailblazing congresswoman, but to her Maui family, Patsy Takemoto Mink brought dessert and was the smart cousin. Her cousins and friends on Maui will remember Mink with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Maui High School Gymnasium.
