Suzuki Baseball Clinic scheduled for Jan. 12

The second annual Kurt Suzuki Youth Baseball Clinic is scheduled for Jan. 12 at Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.

Instruction will be offered by Suzuki, a Baldwin High School graduate who has spent six seasons as a major league catcher and is now with the Washington Nationals, as well as from members of All Pono and high school coaches. The free event is limited to 225 participants.

Instruction is scheduled for 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for youths ages 8-12, and 1:30-4 p.m. for youths 13-18. All participants will receive an item autographed by Suzuki as well as a gift bag.

Hawaiian Style Volleyball tryouts set

Hawaiian Style Volleyball Club tryouts are scheduled for Nov. 24 at Erdman Athletic Center at Seabury Hall in Olinda, from 4 to 5 p.m. for girls in grades 6-8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for girls in grades 9 and 10 and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for girls in grades 11 and 12.

Players must try out in their own age division, but may stay to participate in an older division tryout as well. A birth certificate copy is required, and a parent must be present to sign forms, which are available at hawaiianstylevbc.com.

An open gym session for all high school players is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday at Haliimaile Gym.

Baseball tourney for players 40 and over

The Maui Adult Baseball League has scheduled a wood-bat tournament for players 40 and over with games on six consecutive Sundays at 9 a.m. at Kalama Park in Kihei, starting Nov. 18.

The fee is $50, and registration can be completed at Hitters Paradise in Kihei.

Maui Century Bike Ride next week

The Maui Century Bike Ride is scheduled for 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Nov. 18.

The event starts at Maluaka Beach Park in Makena and will have 25-, 50-, 75- and 100-mile routes, followed by a barbecue.

Bowling tournament accepting teams

The Christmas Handicap Doubles Sweeper bowling tournament is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the Maui Bowling Center in Wailuku.

The fee is $50 per bowler, and the field will be limited to 25 teams.

Potter aces No. 13 at Emerald Course

Steve Potter of Kahana had a hole-in-one on the Wailea Emerald Course on Oct. 27.

Potter aced the 13th hole, using a 9-iron for the 110-yard shot, which was witnessed by Ed Robinson and Tom Boycik.
