Hawaii men win season opener

Christian Standhardinger scored 27 points and Hauns Brereton added 24 as the University of Hawaii men's basketball team defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 76-64 on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Isaac Fotu grabbed 15 rebounds for UH, and Jace Tavita had nine assists. Vander Joaquim, who is coming back from a knee injury, had 11 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes.

Maryland Eastern Shore's Troy Snyder scored 17 points.

Hawaii will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.
