The price for unleaded regular gasoline in Wailuku fell 8 cents from last week to $4.39 a gallon, the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch reported Thursday.
That price was 13 cents less than last month and 4 cents lower than last year.
The Wailuku downward move conforms with the statewide trend with gas prices down 7 cents from last week to $4.24 cents per gallon. That was 11 cents less than last month and 8 cents lower than last year.
Honolulu's average price dropped to $4.17 a gallon for regular unleaded, 6 cents less than last week, 17 cents less than last month and 14 cents higher than a year ago.
In Hilo, the average gas price was $4.24 a gallon, down 12 cents from last week, 14 cents less than last month and 8 cents more than this time last year.
"Only two states in the country still have $4 a gallon-plus prices, Hawaii and Alaska," said AAA Hawaii Regional Manager Diane Peterson. "The Alaska state average is $4.09 a gallon. California prices have dropped below $4 a gallon and the Golden State's average dipped to $3.91."
The AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch is a weekly snapshot of gas prices. Prices are derived from fleet vehicle credit card transactions at more than 100,000 stations around the country and are the combined averages of the last card swipe of the previous day.
