Golf tournament will benefit families of fallen firefighters

November 7, 2012

The Hawaii Fire Chiefs Association will host the 4th annual National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Golf Tournament on Thursday at Kaanapali Kai Golf Course. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

The tournament is open to the public and the $150-per-golfer fee includes cart, greens fee, gratuity, lunch and prizes.

This event is one in a series of nationwide golf tournaments organized by local volunteers to raise funds for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF). In 2011, the NFFF Memorial Golf Tournaments collectively raised nearly $300,000 for the foundation. The proceeds benefit the foundation's mission to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty, provide resources for surviving family members, including scholarships, workshops and conferences, and educate firefighters on preventing future fire service injuries and fatalities.

"The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Golf Tournament is a great way to raise money and awareness for the foundation's programs and services as well as a fun way to spend a day with friends and neighbors," said Tournament Coordinator Capt. Derrick Chai. "We are very pleased to host this tournament which benefits the loved ones and co-workers of firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice."

Sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals, groups and area businesses. For more information about the tournament, including registration and sponsorship opportunities, visit golf.firehero.org/hi/ or contact Chai at 870-9923 or derrick.chai@mauicounty.gov.
