Responders applauded for keeping public safe

November 5, 2012
The Maui News

Regarding the Oct. 27 tsunami warning: I would like to give a big thank-you to the federal, state, county and private responders who responded and assisted us with making sure that we were safe, sound and out of danger's way.

I give a big thank-you to the Maui Police Department, Maui Fire Department, state Department of Land and Natural Resources officers, American Medical Response emergency medical technicians and paramedics, and the federal agencies for their professionalism, maintaining the calm and overseeing that mandatory evacuations went smoothly. Without your assistance, we would have been in disarray, panic and confusion.

To MPD Chief Gary Yabuta and MFD Chief Jeff Murray: Your officers and firefighters did an amazing job and went beyond the call of duty.

I'm not too sure who the American Medical Response manager or supervisor for Maui County is but, sir or ma'am, I thank you for having your medics available in case a medical emergency arose. The medics deserve a thank-you also. You all did an awesome job and thank you once again for always being there for us.
