For the mayor and Civil Defense's information, people do live in West Maui. To ask residents to drive through the flood zone to Lahainaluna is inexcusable. We know where people will go for a disaster.
In order to be prepared, we need to have the following items kept at the West Maui baseyard: port-a-potties, cots, emergency generators and lights, a first-aid trailer, cameras and lights for the news, and communications trailer.
Here is where people will go for shelter: the West Maui airport, Napili shopping center, Maui Prep, Napili park and Maui Land & Pineapple Co. baseyard.
We west-siders need these items to survive. The west-siders will be handed the task of taking care of our neighbors as well as visitors in the event of a disaster. Give us the tools we need to do the job.
