Obama backs Gabbard, Hirono
The campaigns for Mazie Hirono and Tulsi Gabbard both announced over the weekend that they had been endorsed by President Barack Obama.
Hirono, a Democrat, is running for U.S. Senate against Republican Linda Lingle.
Hirono's campaign said that the president made the endorsement via a statewide radio spot, in which he says, "I need Mazie's cooperative style and commitment to middle-class families in the U.S. Senate."
Gabbard, also a Democrat, is running for Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District against Republican candidate Kawika Crowley.
Gabbard's campaign said that Obama released a statement saying, "Middle class families can count on Tulsi Gabbard and she needs their support on Election Day."
