William R. Grubbs, 85, of Wailuku, Maui, formerly of Huntington Beach, Calif. passed away on October 29, 2012, at Hale Makua Kahului. He was born on May 3, 1927 in Los Angeles, California to William and Rachel Grubbs. He served in the US Navy during WWII where he was stationed on Guam.
William owned and operated an insurance agency for 48 years in Downey, Calif. He had a love for music and self-taught himself classical guitar, ukulele and Hamonica. He could accomplish anything he set his mind to. He built one of the largest model train garden railways in Hawaii at his Wailuku Home, was a gourmet cook, surfer, and world traveler. At age 75, he took up the sport of powerlifting and set world records in powerlifting in the over 80 age group.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Grubbs; a daughter, Laura Montierth, of Lakewood, California; grandson, Dylan Montierth, of Lakewood, California; and granddaughter, Audrey Dornish, of Lakewood, California.
Private family services will be held.
