I believe that the reason Mark Kaniela Ing came back to Maui to run for state House representative instead of running on Oahu - where he had been living for the last five years - is precisely because we don't know him here.
Ing boasts that he was student body president at UH-Manoa, yet he neglects to mention that he left the position in disgrace.
Up until now, we didn't know that he had been threatened with expulsion from UH because he falsely represented a budget resolution as having the support of the full University of Hawaii Student Coalition. It took three months for UHSC to stop Ing from misrepresenting himself until finally, only after he was threatened with expulsion, did he capitulate. The following is a link to the letter from UHSC: www.hawaiifreepress.com/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=kNvVXT2a3ms%3d&tabid=56.
Ing has portrayed himself as fresh and innocent, yet he is anything but. In addition to the UH controversy, there is his questionable campaign finance reports and his "I caught my first fish and first wave in Kihei, so even though I grew up in Makawao I'm a South Maui boy" ruse. This shows the character of a scammer, not a community representative.
South Maui, we need to nip this kid in the bud before he can enact serious damage to our community.
