The following are my observations regarding candidates in the Nov. 6 election, both locally and nationally.
The person responsible for making blatantly false statements on this page regarding Don Guzman (Letters, Oct. 7), and those slashing his face on his sign in Pukalani and many other signs around the island are pathetic. I have known Guzman for several years. He is very bright, ethical, a good listener and has his heart in the right place, with the people of Maui. I'm voting for Don for County Council.
I supported Linda Lingle for mayor from the beginning and was standing beside her at her headquarters when "The Elmer" walked over to her and conceded the election to her in her first mayoral race. Her quiet comment after he walked away was, "I hope I can do this." Well, she did succeed. However, in my opinion, she is a different person today. When she campaigned for Sarah Palin she lost me. I will not vote for Lingle. Would she reach across the aisle? Yes, in trying to bring moderate Democrats into Mitt Romney's way of thinking. I'm staying with Mazie Hirono for senator.
Romney is a fascist calling a moderate a socialist. Should we vote to let self-entitled plutocrats determine national policy? No way.
I believe Barack Obama is a bright, honest man with vision and is doing the best that can be done with what he inherited as president. I'm voting for Obama for president.
