Couch deserves re-election to South Maui council seat

October 28, 2012
The Maui News

Maui Council members have to walk a very careful line. While in office, they are supposed to represent the people in their home area. But when they stand for re-election, they must get the support of voters in the whole county. You can see how this might be a conflict. Sometimes a candidate gets the support of the voters in the district but loses due to voters elsewhere. The district voters then feel disenfranchised.

We, as voters, can eliminate that problem by listening to the voters in a district and taking their recommendation.

Don Couch has been a great representative for South Maui. He attends the monthly Kihei Community Association meetings to update us on council activities and to listen to the public's concerns. He serves as the focal point for resolving problems in the district.

He was supported by the district's voters in the last election and will do even better this time. We ask that all the other voters in the county respect our choice and help us re-elect Don Couch. Mahalo for your support.
