Having just completed watching the Linda Lingle-Mazie Hirono debate (The Maui News, Oct. 20) and earlier reading new studies that indicate the electorate is sick of the bickering and is seeking a bipartisan set of solutions that unlock the gridlock and move the country forward, I ask myself, "Which one of these women will best serve the interests of Hawaii?"
Hirono is a highly partisan Democrat who voted with the party 95.3 percent of the time in the 112th Congress. She showed no interest in anything but branding her opponent as a Republican and Mitt Romney supporter with no vision of her own.
Lingle has a long record of working with the Democrats to get things done without compromising her core value of seeking the right thing for the people of Hawaii. With her connections with other former governors throughout the country and her attitude of seeking solutions, she will be the best possible senator Hawaii can have.
Union members: Hirono is the candidate of the union bosses, paid for with your dollars. But Lingle will do more for your family. She will work across the aisle to get good ideas passed.
Especially in Maui County, we know Lingle as a caring and decent human being who has worked for many years on behalf of the people of Maui as a council member and mayor and on behalf of all the people of Hawaii as our governor. She will do no less as our next senator.
Vote Lingle.
