Recently I have noticed Chayne Marten has been adding "Save Honolua" to his campaign signs. I have nothing against Marten or the causes he champions, but I am still voting for his opponent, Angus McKelvey.
It takes a while to get anything done in government and Marten would be a rookie. I have known Angus since he was a grom surfing Honolua. (I was already an old man.)
The week before the mayor's budget hearing in Lahaina, I asked Angus to attend as an observer to get a finger on the pulse of the community. As our conversation evolved, he instead jumped on a plane to talk to the powers that be. He returned very positive and the results were discussed at the County Council on Monday, and in The Maui News on Tuesday (Oct. 16).
It will take all of us to save Honolua.
