Former University of Hawaii standout Anthony Car-ter was waived by the Denver Nuggets on Thursday.
Carter, a 6-foot-1 point guard, has averaged 4.8 points and 3.8 assists per game during a 13-year NBA career.
He also has played for the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors.
Carter, 37, also has played in the Continental Basketball Association and Italy.
Last season with the Raptors, Carter played in 24 games and averaged 2.0 points and 1.4 assists. He signed with the Nuggets earlier this month.
Carter played for UH from 1996 to 1998, and averaged 18.4 points and 6.9 assists, which is a school career record, then was not selected in the NBA draft.
He was the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year during the 1996-97 season, and one of only 10 players in school history to have scored 10,000 career points.
Carter, who is from Atlanta, has donated $100,000 to fund scholarships at UH.
