Consider competency, character when voting

October 21, 2012
The Maui News

Who should get our votes?

It seems that we keep getting elected officials who are only political operatives. They promise but don't deliver. The electability tests for these types seem to be caring, compassionate, charismatic and a person you would like to have a beer with.

While nice attributes, these are not what is most important. My landscaper may fit all of these qualities but I would not have him repair my car nor do heart surgery on me.

What is important? Character and, most important, competency.

Competency in executive experience, in financial matters and the ability to get the work done with others. This is the person who should receive our votes.
