Vote for council members who will protect Maui

October 20, 2012
The Maui News

Picture Maui in 20 years: What do you want it to be? Do you want it to maintain its rural look and beauty, with healthy reef systems and mostly light traffic? Or would you prefer to see Maui turn into Oahu East, with developments filling its hillsides and valleys and five lanes of traffic backed up in each direction?

You can influence where Maui goes. If you like Maui the way it is, vote for those County Council members who share that vision. Elle Cochran is the clear winner there, having voted against both Olowalu and Lipoa Point development. Don Couch and Robert Carroll also voted against development of Lipoa Point, but voted in favor of developing Olowalu. The rest of the council members voted in favor of developing both those properties. They are: Mike White, Mike Victorino, Joseph Pontanilla, Danny Mateo and Gladys Baisa.

I will vote for Elle, but not for any of the others. The Maui we are moving toward through their votes is not the Maui I want to see. Please clip out this letter and take it to the polls with you. Join me in selecting a council that will protect Maui, not destroy it.
