100 Years Ago

1912 - Haleakala is to be invaded by the moving picture machine. The fleeting clouds and the beautiful sunrise are to be snapped in the act and, later on, thrown on the screen in thousands of American and European show houses. R. K. Bonine will do the work.

75 Years Ago

1937 - Maui High School's student body newspaper, Maui Hi-Notes, received an international first place rating in the annual Quill and Scroll critical service review for 1936-37. This year Maui Hi-Notes is undertaking a more ambitious program.

50 Years Ago

1962 - "The School Musician," professional magazine for directors, teachers, students and parents, honored Saburo Watanabe instrumental music instructor at Baldwin High School in its September issue. Mr. Watanabe has long been considered one of Hawaii's top band leaders.

25 Years Ago

1987 - Mollie Klingman made history last week when she became the first woman ever named the Outstanding Recruit of a Maui Police Department class. Klingman was among the 13 graduates in the department's 35th recruit class.

10 Years Ago

2002 -Parents and children at the Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center were presented with a free mini-concert by Cecilio & Kapono Thursday afternoon. The concert was part of an outreach project by the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
