Thank-You Letters

October 14, 2012
The Maui News

A huge thanks to Jamie Fernandez of Avis Rent A Car, who went to all lengths to find the owner of a wallet with lots of money and cards. It had fallen under the seat and was hidden from our search.

My son came from Japan for his dad's funeral, and in all of the rush could not find his wallet after the service. Avis employees found it, and Jamie sent an e-mail to my son's address. By chance, he checked his home mail and saw her message. We were able to pick up the wallet, which had all of its contents, and his cell phone. Many thanks to honest, wonderful people here on Maui. Thanks, Jamie, you are a special lady.

Thank you to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room. This past summer our family was hit by illnesses that had us visit the ER three times. We are so grateful and appreciative of the good and caring attention of the health professionals in the Maui Memorial ER. Before, when I heard or saw an ambulance with sirens blowing, I said a prayer for the sick person. Now I will also be praying for the EMTs, doctors and nurses who will be caring for that person. Again, mahalo, ER personnel, for your service to all of the Maui community.

As a parent of a Special Olympics athlete, I would like to extend a very special mahalo to police Officers James Terry and Gershom Slonim, along with none other than Sgt. Nick Krau. We can't begin to tell you how much we appreciate your commitment to our athletes by volunteering your personal time. You are true rock stars!

And thank you to our Maui community for your generous support. With more than $12,000 raised, funds will be used to directly support sports programs that keep our athletics healthy. We could not have done it without you!

The nonprofit 9th Life Hawaii thanks Dr. Roger Kehler and his vet techs, Iris Makin and Shannon Dennehy for holding our spay/neuter clinic at the Kihei Veterinary Clinic on Sept. 30.

Once again, in the spirit of aloha, Maui volunteers helped at this clinic. In alphabetical order, we thank Cynthia Lippert, transporter and check-in; Debra Bauer, tattooist; Eva Opel, check-in and recovery; Marie Quindica-Cuomo, recovery and Tina, who also aided in recovery as well.

Overall, 9th Life has sterilized 4,835 cats. We thank the Maui community for participating in our clinics. We should be well over 5,000 cats sterilized by year end because we have clinics scheduled for Oct. 13 and 14 and Nov. 11.

Please call us at 573-3365 if we can help you. We are here to help.
