Fire Prevention Week message soaks in

Schoolchildren frolic in a spray of water from Maui Fire Department’s Ladder 14 firetruck Friday morning at the conclusion of a Fire Prevention Week demonstration at Keopuolani Park. About 250 students, preschool through 2nd grade, were the guests of Maui firefighters who demonstrated firefighting skills, rescue tactics and safety techniques. The theme of this year’s event was “Have Two Ways Out,” which focused on the importance of having a family fire escape plan and practicing it. A second Fire Prevention Week demonstration is scheduled for next Friday morning at the Lahaina Aquatic Center.
