A break in a 12-inch waterline on South Kihei Road left the Kukui Mall without water service on Friday afternoon, said Jacky Takakura, administrative officer with the county Department of Water Supply.
The break occurred on South Kihei Road between Waimahaihai Street and Halelani Place, she said. Crews were working on repairing the broken line, and water service was expected to be returned to the mall by 8:30 p.m. Friday.
Traffic near Kukui Mall was limited to a single lane of traffic, alternating north and south, she added.
Takakura said the mall's Consolidated Theaters and Local Motion store remained open, despite the waterline break, but restaurants needed to close.
