Buddhist minister to speak Nov. 2-4
The Maui Hongwanji Council will host Shin Buddhist minister Kenji Akahoshi to speak on a series of Buddhism topics Nov. 2 to 4 at the Wailuku Hongwanji Mission at 1828 Vineyard St., according to an announcement.
The topics include:
* "If Life is a Nightmare - Wake up to a Dream," basic principles of Shin Buddhism, especially for newcomers, 7 to 8:45 p.m. Nov. 2.
* "Human Nature - Buddha Nature," basic principles of Shin Buddhism, presented through amusing activities as they apply to contemporary American life, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 3.
* "Nembutsu: Heart of Shin Buddhism," defining Nembutsu in 21st century America (the Nembutsu is the recitation of the phrase "Namo Amida Butsu," or "I trust in the Buddha of Immeasurable Light," 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

Chapel to screen 'Travel the Road'
Calvary Chapel South Maui will present a screening of "Travel the Road," an inspiring story of the journey of two missionaries, at 6 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Movie tickets cost $5, and dinner is available for $5.

Fall Sufi Camp to begin this week
Sufis in Hawaii will hold a 23rd annual Fall Sufi Camp today through Oct. 19 at Keanae, according to an announcement.
The camp includes Sufi teachings, dances of universal peace and meditation.
The cost of the camp varies from $640 for a full-week tuition to a daily rate of $125. Tuition includes all meals and programs as well as a choice of camping space or lodging in a dorm. (Please bring your own bedding.)
