This is an elimination game for each team. Kamehameha Maui has the distinction of becoming the first team to score on Lahainaluna in six Maui Interscholastic League games - on a

35-yard field goal last week. Winless King Kekaulike had a string of improvement blunted by the Lunas two weeks ago. Na Alii rank fourth in the league in offense and third in defense, while the Warriors are last in both.

Quarterback Kalai Yap returned to practice this week after missing two games with postconcussion symptoms, and may see limited action. Yap left as the MIL's leading rusher, and is still third on the list. Chase Newton, who took over at quarterback in Yap's absence, is also tied for fourth in the league in receptions.

Na Alii at a glance

Ryley Widell leads the MIL in passing yards, and Romeo Cabbat, Aaron Alama, Charles Apuna and Joshua Ogata all have at least six catches. Austin Ferreira averages 31 yards per reception, best in the league among players with more than one catch. Alama is ninth on the MIL rushing list.

Lahainaluna vs. Baldwin

Saturday, War Memorial Stadium, 7 p.m.

Overview

This is one of the most-anticipated Maui Interscholastic League games of recent years. Lahainaluna has taken defense to a new level this season, allowing just 80 yards per game - Baldwin led the MIL in defense each of the last three years, with a best mark of 128 yards per game last season. The Lunas also lead the league in offense, and are outscoring MIL opponents 215-3. Baldwin ranks second in the league in offense, and fourth in defense.

Lahainaluna has a 19-6 takeaway-turnover ratio, with 13 interceptions. Jeffrey Ancog has picked off four passes, returning two for touchdowns, Semisi Filikitonga has returned two of his three interceptions for scores and Tytus Lucas has picked off three passes as well. Filikitonga is also the second-leading rusher in the league.

Bears at a glance

Quarterback Keelan Ewaliko missed the teams' first meeting, which Lahainaluna won 32-0. In three games, Ewaliko has 350 rushing yards - averaging 14.0 per carry - and 347 passing, while accounting for 12 touchdowns. Linebacker Jordan Hoiem will return after being sidelined all season by the flu and a stress fracture.
