Richard Douglas, 80, passed away on October 1, 2012 in Kula Hospital, Maui, HI.
Mr. Douglas was born December 31, 1931, in Southfields, London, England. He earned two Master's degrees, coached, and ran, for University of Idaho. He taught in CA, NY, DE, and MD. Richard married Busaba Yip, Ph.D. in 2003.
He is survived by his wife Dr. Busaba Yip Douglas, son Laird (Katherine), daughter Nicole Rene' Douglas, and grandchildren Liam & Gavin, and Aiden & Alexis, mother of his children Cynthia Merrick, sister Pamela Webster, brother John, and many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean McCarthy. Private services will be held in Maryland at a later date. Nakamura Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
Dick was a unique and beautiful soul, a poet, a lover of life with a keen sense of humor, and a gentle man. He was an artist, dancer and athlete. He ran "a great race" and now continues his journey, "the natural way".
