The Maui Family YMCA recently announced the launch of its new wellness policy to encourage active living and healthy food choices.
Wellness initiatives include Y Produce Express program, which provides free delivery of fresh produce from local farms on a weekly basis. The expanded program serves more than 20 Central Maui businesses and schools.
In addition, the vending machine located inside the YMCA sells fresh fruit, yogurt, water and healthy sandwiches. Carbonated beverages and unhealthy snacks are no longer available for purchase on the premises. Other components of the policy require that meals provided by the YMCA shall be healthy choices with no sugary drinks.
The YMCA "has always been about health and wellness," said Maui Family YMCA Chief Executive Officer Mike Morris. "We wanted to expand upon our mission by adopting a policy that will support healthful behaviors and create healthy environments."
