A man who was found unresponsive in the water Monday afternoon at Hoolawa Bay in Haiku has been identified as 44-year-old Gregory Blair of Haiku, police said.
He was pronounced dead after being airlifted to medics on nearby Honopou Road.
Police, firefighters and medics were called to respond after a neighbor's report at 2:13 p.m. that Blair had possibly drowned, police said. Blair and the neighbor had gone swimming in the ocean at the end of Honopou Road before the neighbor lost sight of Blair, then saw him bobbing in the water, apparently lifeless, police said.
The neighbor was able to pull Blair to shore before firefighters and medics arrived.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
