By garnering the second-highest number of community votes, Maui High School earned $5,000 through the Mobi PCS Gear Up and Give Back program. First-place winner Hilo Intermediate will receive $10,000 and third-place winner Castle High School will receive $5,000.
The schools will receive their donations in presentations on their respective campuses in the coming weeks.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to give back to our local students and teachers with the Gear Up and Give Back program," said Bill Jarvis, president and CEO of Mobi PCS. "Hilo Intermediate, Maui High and Castle clearly have significant community support, and we hope that the donations will help them advance the great programs each has to offer."
The contest was held from mid-July through Aug. 31. Members of the community were invited to visit any of the 12 Mobi PCS stores statewide to vote for their favorite local elementary, middle or high school. In addition to all Mobi retail stores, 30 of the company's authorized dealers were also Gear Up and Give Back voting locations. No purchase was necessary and the program was opening to all local public, charter, parochial or private schools.
