Shiori Akiyama flips Taro Ushio during a demonstration of Ki-Aikido at the Queen Ka‘ahumanu Center. Members of the Keio University Ki-Aikido Club from Tokyo demonstrated self-defense techniques while being attacked at the event earlier this month. The students train under Shinichi Tohei, president of the World Ki Society. Tohei was on Maui to teach the Keio University Aikido Club’s 55th anniversary celebration seminar Sept. 14 to 16. The seminar was sponsored by the Hawaii Ki Federation and hosted by Maui Ki-Aikido. The demonstration was a finishing touch to the seminar and brought loads of enthusiastic “oohs” and “aahs” from the crowd.
