Church celebrating 86th anniversary
Holy Rosary Church will celebrate its 86th anniversary on Oct. 6 with food booths, arts and crafts vendors, a silent auction and entertainment.
Festivities begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., followed by a Mass, according to an announcement.
The church located in upper Paia has 175 registered families, with the parish under the leadership of the Rev. Elias Escanilla. The parish has been working on making improvements to the church's Gothic structure.
Recently, six damaged stained glass panes were replaced with windows crafted in the Philippines. The new panes include the faces of St. Damien, St. Pio and Blessed Mother Marianne Cope.
Other parish projects include repairing the Thrift Shop and garage and converting them into a multipurpose building with classrooms and a gathering space.
The anniversary celebration will include a cooking contest with the theme of "Best Pupu Dish on Maui." Celebrity judges will pick the winning dishes.
T-shirts portraying St. Damien and Blessed Marianne, soon to be canonized as a saint, will be available for sale at the gift shop along with other religious items.
Services set for month of Tishrei
