The University of Hawaii women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, 25-23, 16-25, 20-25, 25-17, 15-12 to California in the final match of the Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Emily Hartong had 18 kills for UH (5-1), ranked sixth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, and Jane Croson had 17. Molokai High School graduate Kalei Adolpho had nine kills and a .313 hitting percentage, as well as eight block assists and six digs. Kamehameha Maui graduate Ginger Long appeared in the fourth set.
The Rainbow Wahine finished the match with a hitting percentage of .173.
Christina Higgins and Adrienne Gehan each had 13 kills for the 25th-ranked Golden Bears (2-3), who hit .221 in earning their first victory of the tournament.
Baylor beat San Francisco 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19 in the day's first match.
Baylor and UH each went 2-1 in the tournament. The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Bears on Saturday.
Hawaii will face San Diego State in the Verizon Challenge on Friday. No. 3 UCLA and Idaho are also in the field.
