BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Boise State has agreed to make the Big West Conference its new home for most of its sports.
Boise State president Bob Kustra announced Friday that the school has accepted an invitation to join the Big West for all its teams other than football, starting July 1.
The university has been searching for a new league since the football team agreed to join the Big East next season, a move that also brought an end to the school's brief membership in the Mountain West Conference.
The University of Hawaii has joined the Big West, starting in the current school year, in all sports other than football (Mountain West), men's volleyball (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), men's and women's swimming and diving (MPSF), sailing (Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference) and sand volleyball, which does not have conferences.
The Big West also includes Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and the University of the Pacific, which will be leaving on July 1, the same date San Diego State will also join.
