The Maui News

Maui's own Tiffany Ward of Haiku takes cooking to a whole new extreme, literally!

In three episodes through Sept. 6, the 30-year-old owner and executive chef of Maui Catering Services will star on the Food Network's "Extreme Chef," where she as well as six other of the most fearless chefs in America test their physical prowesses as well as mental strengths and culinary skills in a competition for the $50,000 prize.

Don't miss the chance to see our local celebrity showcasing her astounding cooking abilities under grueling and daring situations, in some of the world's harshest environments.

"This was one of the best experiences I've had the pleasure of being a part of," reminisces Ward. "I feel honored to have met so many talented chefs from such different distinguished backgrounds. The competition was rigorous and all the chefs proved to be very fierce competitors."

Filmed in San Diego, the "Coast Guard Cook-Off " episode airs this evening at 7, followed by "Desert Survival" Aug. 30 and the finale of "Off to Thailand" Sept. 6. All repeat.

"It was one of the most physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting competitions, but worth every drop of blood, sweat, and tears."

Ward moved here 12 years ago, after her parents gave her a present of a trip to Maui upon graduation from California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. She fast became a pro windsurfer and competed from Spain to Portugal. But windsurfing wasn't paying the bills so she went back into culinary, and now her firm specializes in Maui weddings.
