July 23-An informational meeting for a badminton league will be held for all interested players on July 23 at Eddie Tam Gym. * BASKETBALL

Aug. 5-The Maui Youth Basketball League is taking applications for its fall league, for boys and girls born in years 1997 to 2006. Volunteer coaches and referees are also needed. Applications are available at The Sports Authority, Maui Sporting Goods and the Central Maui county permits office, or by emailing cssuzuki@hawaiiantel.net. The deadline to apply is Aug. 5. * CHEERLEADING

Saturday-The Maui Cheer Babes will conduct a rummage sale from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at 451 Lono Ave. in Kahului. The team is raising funds to travel to events on Oahu and in California.

* CYCLING

Aug. 25-The Cycle to the Sun, a 36-mile race from Paia to the summit of Haleakala, 10,023 feet above sea level, is scheduled for Aug. 25, with a 6:30 a.m. start. Riders can register individually or as a three-person relay team. The entry fee is $200 for individual racers, or $300 for a team. A $25 fee will be charged after Aug. 6. * FOOTBALL

Tuesday-King Kekaulike High School will hold football tryouts starting Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the school's stadium. Players need to have a physical and come to the field ready to practice. Contact: 573-8710.

Tuesday-The Maui Football Officials Association will be starting its weekly meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Baldwin High School portable classes. Any interested persons who would like to be part of the association and officiate are asked to attend.

Tuesday-Thursday-Elleair Maui Golf Club will conduct a junior camp from Tuesday through Thursday, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. each day. The fee is $75, and the camp is limited to 30 participants. Contact: 874-0777.

July 28-The next event in the Maui Tour golf series is scheduled for July 28 at The Dunes at Maui Lani. The field will be limited to 40 players. Future events are scheduled for Aug. 17 at the Kapalua Plantation Course, Sept. 7 at the Wailea Emerald Course, October at Kahili Golf Course and Nov. 9 at King Kamehameha Golf Club. Aug. 12-Applications are currently being accepted for the 30th annual Baldwin Basketball Backers Benefit Golf Tournament. The two-person scramble tournament will be held on Aug. 12 at the Waiehu Municipal Golf Course. Entry forms are available at most local golf course pro shops. * PADDLEBOARD

July 22-The seventh annual Naish Paddle Championships will be held July 22. The 9.54-mile race from Maliko Gulch to Kahului Harbor will have a staggered start at 1 p.m. and feature stand-up paddle and paddleboard classes. The early entry fee is $50. * SOFTBALL

Aug. 14-Registration is under way for the South Maui Parks and Recreation men's open softball league. Games are to begin in the third week of August, and be played on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at South Maui Community Park. The league is limited to 20 teams, and registration forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Department office at 303 E. Lipoa St. in Kihei. Contact: 879-4533.

Aug. 17-19-UCLA softball coach Kelly Inouye-Perez will conduct a clinic Aug. 17-19 at Patsy Mink Field. The registration fee is $120 per player and $70 per coach and the deadline to register is July 28. The player limit for the clinic will be 150 players - 75 from 4th through 8th grades, and 75 from 9th through 12th grades. Applications are available at mauisoftballclinic.com.
