KAHULUI - The 15 Maui and Lanai congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses will be holding the 2012 "Safeguard Your Heart!" District Convention at the Castle and McCoy theaters of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center from July 6 to 8.
While people may often hear the expression "Follow your heart," the convention program promises a fresh examination of Biblical references to the figurative heart.
Program parts will encourage self-scrutiny and reflection, amounting to a three-day examination of one's own figurative heart.
Through lively discourses, dramatic Bible readings and presentations and a live play, the program will emphasize how protecting the figurative heart will enhance spiritual well-being, help make wise decisions, improve family life, strengthen the personal relationship with God and find true happiness.
The convention theme "Safeguard Your Heart!" is based on Proverbs 4:23. The daily themes and titles of program parts are based on passages of Scripture, including 1 Samuel 16:7, 1 Chronicles 28:9, and Matthew 12:34. A highlight will be the baptism discourse based on Ephesians 3:20, "Give Your Heart to Jehovah," that will conclude the second day's morning program. Another highlight of the convention will be the final morning's Public Discourse, based on Isaiah 65:13,14, 17-19, 21-23, titled "The Former Things Will Not . . . Come Up Into the Heart."
On the last day, there will be a play titled "What Is True Love?"
For all three days of the convention, the program sessions begin at 9:20 a.m. and conclude at 4:55 p.m. on July 6 and July 7 and 3:40 p.m. on July 8. Admission is free, and no collections will be taken. Conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses are supported entirely by voluntary donations. The public is invited.
Locally, an estimated 1,600 are expected to attend for the Bible-based programs from Maui and Lanai.
