Event to kick off Fontaine campaign

WAILEA - State Rep. George Fontaine will kick off his re-election campaign Friday with a dinner and a concert featuring Na Hoku award-winning jazz singer and songwriter "Ginai."

Tickets cost $75 per person for the event starting at 5:30 p.m. at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea.

Fontaine is a retired Maui Police Department captain, a former small-business owner and former District 5000 governor for Rotary International. He is completing his first term in office.


Gapero files papers seeking council seat

WAILUKU - Lisa Gapero has filed nomination papers for the Maui County Council's Wailuku residency seat.

Gapero also ran for the council in 2010. Her priorities include streamlining the process to encourage the growth of small businesses; lowering the tax burden on the working people; and ensuring that council activities are open to the public for input and review.

Joseph Blackburn II and incumbent Council Member Mike Victorino also have filed papers for the Wailuku residency seat, according to the state Office of Elections on Saturday.
