PAIA - Buddha's Birthday will be celebrated by the Maui Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center Saturday through Monday.
Known as Saga Dawa in the Tibetan tradition, the special ceremonies will take place around the Great Paia Peace Stupa and the temple gardens. Prayers will be offered honoring important events in the historical Buddha Gautama's life - his birth, his death and his attaining nirvana.
The Peace Stupa will be adorned with lights as a reminder of the collective wish for world peace, as well as the Buddha's teachings on nonviolence and loving kindness.
The Great Paia Peace Stupa will be a pivotal part of the Buddha’s Birthday celebration by the Maui Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center from Saturday to Monday.
The celebration will start Saturday and Sunday evenings, from 5 to 8, with a prayer service in a special temple tent in the center's garden.
A Community Gathering of Sacred Celebration will be led by the Venerable Lama Gyaltsen of the Maui Dharma Center on Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Gyaltsen will be joined by Buddhists from other traditions.
The weekend celebration culminates in the grand offering of 108 lotus lights.
The events are free and the open to the public.
