Oahu school instructors: Late paychecks
HONOLULU - Some instructors at an Oahu community college say they haven't been paid in several months and are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their jobs.
After seeing a Facebook page titled, "My Colleagues and I have not been paid in four months," the Honolulu Star-Advertiser contacted 12 instructors who teach noncredit courses at Kapiolani Community College. The newspaper reported Monday that 11 of them say they had waited up to five months for paychecks, with overdue amounts up to several thousand dollars.
Dean of Community Relations and Continuing Education Carol Hoshiko says administrators are looking to see if payments can be made faster.

Mayor awards members of flower group
WAILUKU - Members of the Maui Flower Growers' Association who attended and worked at the 2012 Philadelphia Flower Show were presented a certificate of outstanding achievement by Mayor Alan Arakawa last month.
The growers raised awareness about Maui's locally grown flowers at the show, which had the theme of "Hawai'i, Islands of Aloha." The show featured a Hawaii marketplace that showcased Hawaii-made products, flowers and cultural crafts from around the state. Other Maui County businesses showed off their wares at the event.
Maui County's effort was led by Teena Rasmussen, the county's economic development coordinator.
The association is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting Maui's flower-growing industry in retail and wholesale markets across the United States.
"This show gave us the opportunity to raise awareness about Maui's amazing locally grown flowers to thousands of East Coast flower lovers," said Cheryl Ambrozic, the association's executive director.
Around 270,000 people attended the show.
