HONOLULU - Two Maui design companies took home awards from the 2012 American Advertising Federation Hawaii Pele Awards held recently on Oahu.
Sae Design of Wailuku took home seven awards, including three golds, three silvers and one bronze for its various advertising, marketing and design work.
ZL Design of Lahaina took home its first Pele Award, a silver, in the direct marketing, speciality advertising apparel category for its "L.A.F. with Aloha t-shirt series" it was designed for Lahaina Animal Farm.
This was freelance designer Zenobia Lakdawalla's first win at the Peles.
Sae Design, led by Saedene Ota, has added more awards under its belt.
This year, the advertising and marketing firm took gold awards for specialty advertising (other merchandise), logo design and illustration campaign.
The three silver awards were in collateral material special event material (announcements), a category of website design and collateral material (brochure four-color).
It also picked up a bronze award for travel and tourism (print collateral).
Some of its award-winning work came for clients such as Aqua Hotels & Resorts, Maui Memorial Medical Center and Hotels & Resorts of Halekulani.
