SACRAMENTO - Collin Bennett hit a pair of home runs, but the University of Hawaii baseball team lost 7-6 in 12 innings to Sacramento State on Friday in the opener of the teams' three-game series.
The Rainbows fell to 28-19, and 8-5 in the Western Athletic Conference, dropping into a tie for first place in the WAC standings with Nevada.
Derrick Chung won the game for the Hornets (27-23, 9-7) with an RBI single in the bottom of the 12th off Jesse Moore (1-1).
Bennett hit his first home run of the year, a three-run shot, in the fourth inning, and added a two-run drive in the ninth for a 6-4 lead.
David Del Grande hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth for the Hornets.
Ty Nichols (2-3) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.
