KAHULUI - Strong demand for airline seats between Maui and Los Angeles has led Hawaiian Airlines to extend its seasonal summer service another two months, through October, the airline announced Thursday.
"We've seen tremendous demand for our nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Maui, and the strength of bookings through the end of summer has prompted us to extend the service into fall," said Peter Ingram, Hawaiian's executive vice president and chief commercial officer.
Hawaiian had previously announced that its Los Angeles-Maui service would operate daily from June 21 through Aug. 19.
From Aug. 21 through Oct. 31, Hawaiian Flight 33 will leave Los Angeles International Airport three days weekly on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 9:40 a.m. and arrive at Kahului Airport at 12:15 p.m. The airline's return flight, No. 34, will leave Maui on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:55 p.m., arriving in Los Angeles at 11:15 p.m.
According to the airline, nearly 8,000 new air seats are being added between California and Maui during the extended travel period.
Travelers have the option of making flight connections to Oahu, Kauai or the Big Island as part of Hawaiian making Maui a hub for travelers.
