Added flights lead to more gates for Hawaiian

May 2, 2012
The Maui News

KAHULUI - Hawaiian Airlines has added three new boarding gates to its Kahului Airport operations, with all flights using gates 11 to 21 in the center of the terminal.

Charles Nardello, Hawaiian senior vice president of operations, said its operations were expanded because of added flights at its Maui hub. Its round-trip Neighbor Island flights to Maui were increased by 25 percent and include nonstop flights connecting Maui with Kauai and the Big Island, according to the airline.

Hawaiian's gates are closest to the terminal entrance after travelers clear security.

The airline said it is increasing flights to Maui from California this summer by restarting daily nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Maui from June 21 to Aug. 18 and increasing nonstop flights between Maui and the Bay Area by 70 percent from July 1 to Aug. 21. There will be daily flights from Oakland and flights five days a week from San Jose.

Wide-body, twin-aisle Boeing 767-300 aircraft seating up to 264 passengers will be used on the flights from California. They will arrive on Maui before 12:30 p.m. so travelers can make connections to other islands.
