WAILUKU - A 41-year-old Maui Community Correctional Center inmate remained in an intensive care unit at Maui Memorial Medical Center on Friday after jail officials found him hanging in his cell Thursday afternoon, police said.

There appeared to be no signs of foul play in the incident reported at 3:56 p.m. Thursday, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division.

Clarence Miguel of Pukalani was revived by jail officials before he was taken to the hospital, Rego said.

Miguel had been incarcerated since Tuesday on a probation violation warrant and was being held on $25,000 bail, he said. Miguel also was awaiting a court hearing.

State Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Toni Schwartz said the department was aware of the incident. "We are reviewing the situation," she said Friday.
