‘Blue Lagoon’ proves a blessing

April 13, 2012
The Maui News
Director Mikael Salomon receives a blessing last month from Kimokeo Kapahulehua before filming began on the Lifetime Channel movie “The Blue Lagoon.” The new project is a remake of the 1980 film starring Christopher Atkins and Brooke Shields about a boy and girl marooned on a tropical island where they grow up together and fall in love. The new production stars Australian actors Brenton Thwaites and Indiana Evans. Filming began in March and wrapped up in early April. More than 30 Maui residents found work on the crew in electrical, set safety and stunt coordinator positions, according to the Maui County Film Office. Actors and crew stayed in local hotels for more than 450 room nights, the office reported. The production will air later this year.
