Man charged with bankruptcy fraud
HONOLULU - The FBI says a Honolulu man is accused of filing for bankruptcy while hiding more than $140,000 that could have been used to pay his debts.
Gil Constantino is charged with one count of bankruptcy fraud.
According to the charges, he had more than $140,000 in cash and annuities that could have been used to pay creditors. The alleged concealment was discovered by the U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee, who made a criminal referral to the FBI.
Constantino was not arrested. His attorney has agreed that Constantino will surrender to the FBI on April 16 for his arraignment in federal court.
FBI Special Agent Tom Simon says it's a crime to hide significant assets while seeking compassionate relief afforded by the bankruptcy process.
