I am truly honored by the many who have told me that they had received my telephone call in March. More than 15,000 calls were sent but some people have said that they did not understand the purpose of the call. So, let me explain.
We, FACE MAUI, a coalition of churches and community organizations, wanted everyone to know how important the Maui Island Plan is for our future. Why? Because it will set in place a land development plan for the entire island of Maui for the next 20 years. More than four years of review have already been done by citizens' groups called the General Plan Advisory Committee and the Maui Planning Commission. It is now in front of the General Plan Committee of the Maui County Council to make the plan law.
There are concerns that the previous work done will be changed and will not reflect our value of keeping Maui Maui.
