Chef David Paul Johnson is teaching again with a series of hands-on cooking classes titled "In the Kitchen with David."
Attendees meet at noon at his elegant and spacious David Paul's Island Grill location at 900 Front St. in Lahaina Center.
"Anyone can attend my class and walk away with something to take home and impress others with their how-to cooking knowledge," says the seasoned chef. "As a class, we go from start to finish in preparing farm-to-table ingredients all procured on the islands, grown organically and full of flavor. Then we sit down to a nice meal afterwards."

The first class launched earlier this month, and the rest will be held every second and forth Sunday of the month. Every class has a different theme and style of cooking. March 11 will be "Real Men Eat Quiche"; and March 25, the class will be about "What Women Really Want."
"Cooking is one of the oldest arts in the world," says the chef. "I can remember far more about the foods I've eaten than a movie I've seen or an artwork I've admired."
"The last class I held here, I told the group we were going to make tuna sandwiches, you could see the eyes rolling around like this was going to be a waste of their time, until I pulled off the cover of a 150 pound tuna to show them how to break it down, what to look for, what parts get used where, then how to make the focaccia, the aioli, the tuna confit and so much more, just to prepare a fabulous yet simple meal. Good food is simple - but simplicity is a just relative term."
