Pico receives MIL’s lone top seed

HONOLULU - The Maui Interscholastic League has one No. 1 seed in the Chevron State Wrestling Championships brackets announced Sunday - Molokai's Mikayla Pico, in the girls 98-pound division.

The state tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Blaisdell Arena.

The Lahainaluna boys team, which claimed eight MIL individual championships on Saturday and has state qualifiers in all 14 weight divisions, got two No. 2 seeds - for Christian Carbajal (120) and Giovani Perez (160). The Lunas' No. 3 seeds are Robert Campos (130), Thomas Rosen-St. John (145), Justin Taylor (171) and Hercules Mataafa (215). Gary Long (108) and B.J. Pagdilao-Bala (125) are seeded fourth.

Also seeded second are King Kekaulike's Austin Bloch (140), Kamehameha Maui's Andrew Kahalewai (152) and Maui High's Totauhelotu Lotulelei (189). Maui High's Gerald Dionio is the No. 3 seed at 114. Molokai's Dhavin Spencer-Basa is No. 3 at 285, and Kailen Inouye is No. 4 at 135.

Two girls from Molokai received No. 2 seeds - Rizpah Torrres-Umi at 120, and Charisse Manley at 125. Baldwin's Courtney Taua is No. 2 at 175. Seeded third are King Kekaulike's Jenna Rose Mauliola (103) and Lahainaluna's Kiana Yamat (114). Mahea Kaaihui-Falahee (108), Carly Jaramillo (130) and Breanna Dudoit-Vasquez (140) of Lahainaluna are seeded fourth, as are Baldwin's Hailey Namauu (155) and Sydney Ibarra (220).
